It is the 3rd annual match between Teign Village and Deaks XI in memory of former village player Kyle Deakin, This year saw the launch of the KingsCare Cup in memory of Kyle, something we hope can grow and keep his legacy in the local game for many years to come.
The Deaks XI side consisted of players from the era in which Kyle played at the club – some of which are still at the club, some are playing at other clubs he also played for and some are just fossils who come out retirement to remember Kyle in the only way we know how – A great game of football!
Members of Kyle’s family, who all still have close connections with the club come to support the Deaks XI, with Deaks Uncle Scott Captaining the squad in the 2nd Half.
Members of the KingsCare Trust, who help manage #DoitForDeaks were also in attendance for the launch of the KingsCare Cup, of which they engraved and donated.
Match day entertainment was organised by the club secretary Paul Edwards and club committee members Sylvia Edwards and Emma Beer, who make a great Burger!
The match entertained the crowd with 5 goals being scored, although Deaks himself would be unimpressed with his former teammates who only found the back of the net once, courtesy of Josh Robinson who chipped the Village keeper. Mike Turner, Dean Kelly and Jamie Kelly (2) scored the goals for Village.
The result was not the important factor in this game, it was about remembering Kyle, enjoying the great game Kyle loved and was so good at and about raising money for #DoitForDeaks, a charity set up following the passing of Kyle to help end the stigma around mental health and to help support those who are struggling – an incredible organisation!
Kyle Deakin – A Village player, who we will never forget!
